Five teams from Germany, France, Italy and Austria presented their solutions to an expert jury headed by Nina Simon (LEC) at the end of September. Subsequently, the three best solutions were selected.

And these are the LEC Data Challenge winners 2021:

1st place endowed with 3,000 euros:
Team Halti from Austria , Matthias Schwab, Adela Moravova, Christoph Angermann.

2nd place endowed with 2,000 euros:
Team NAISML from Italy, Leonardo Pulga and Claudio Forte

3rd place endowed with 1.000 Euro:
Team Endrikat from Germany, Sebastian Endrikat.

The award ceremony took place during the symposium “Sustainability in Mobility, Transport and Power Generation” at the Graz Congress.

Christoph from the winning team said:
“We were not familiar with the exact processes in a combustion chamber, nor did we know about any correlations between acceleration and pressure sensors. Therefore, it was very difficult for us to find suitable data preprocessing techniques, which meant that we focused strongly on the algorithmic architecture of our machine learning model. We guess that optimization of the model architecture itself distinguished us from other competitors and enabled us to achieve the best results on the evaluation data.”

Matthias Schwab from Team Halit adds:
“Being able to attend the award ceremony as well as the following congress was a great experience for us. We were able to share our knowledge with different people and got interesting insights into new topics”

Moritz Fröhlich, CDO of INNIO Jenbacher, sponsor of the 1st prize, says: “
The Data Challenge was a well-organized initiative with very good results and an excellent opportunity to get connected with young talents.”
