Design of a Control System of a Rapid Compression Machine
The Rapid Compression Machine at LEC is used for the investigation of ignition, combustion and knocking investigations of combustion engines. Due to the concept without a crank train, this machine can be used to simulate individual combustion cycles with great flexibility in terms of piston stroke, compression ratio and composition of the working gas. The optical access in the piston and in the liner enables high speed camera recordings of the combustion process. The investigations serve on the one hand to gain a deeper understanding of the complex processes in the combustion chamber and on the other hand the investigations offer the possibility of validating simulation models (e.g. in the 3D CFD simulation) using the generated measurement data.
Target:
The aim of the present thesis is to set up the test bench control in a test bench control program, to eliminate design-related weaknesses and to carry out measurements.
Tasks:
- Selection of an appropriate test bed control system
- Setting up the test bench control system in a suitable test bed control program
- Carrying out measurements, including measurement data processing
- Functional testing of the machine (analysis of possible weak points in the machine)
- Developing proposed solutions, including design, manufacture, assembly and test operation
- Creating a 3D and 2D model of the test bench
- Writing the master’s thesis
