Development of a simulation program to investigate the influence of piston ring movement on oil transport
Development of a simulation program to investigate the influence of piston ring movement on oil transport
Target:
The aim of this work is to create a Python program for simulating piston ring movement in a simplified test environment in order to gain a better understanding of this movement and the resulting oil transport into the combustion chamber. Subsequently, measures to reduce oil consumption and the associated pre-ignition will be developed.
Tasks:
- Literature research on the topic of piston-ring-cylinder liner multi-body simulation
- Familiarization with programming in Python and creation of the simulation program
- Setting up, performing, and validating ring simulations in a simplified test environment using the developed program
- Evaluating the simulations and preparing the results
- Deriving possible measures for reducing oil transport into the combustion chamber based on the findings obtained from the simulations
Starting date: To be agreed
Duration: Approximately 6 months
