4 LEC publications at WCX™ World Congress Experience 2023, Detroit

All 4 publications have been presented at the WCX World Congress Experience 2023 in Detroit in April. This major international conference for engineering professionals, organised by SAE International, is the largest technical mobility event where the global mobility community gathers to exchange ideas and address today’s challenges. The presented papers show that LEC is at the forefront of simulation and digitalization of large engines. This will make large engines fit for future goals, for meeting zero-emission targets and optimal and reliable performance.

The papers deal with

  • data-driven prediction of combustion parameters through a machine learning framework built upon standard engine data and value-added data from an intelligent fuel injection valve;
  • a “virtual pressure sensor” that uses signals from much cheaper knock sensors and evaluates those via neural networks to achieve optimized engine control;
  • accurate surface topography characterization of the inner surface of a cylinder liner with the help of simple RGB images and a deep learning framework;
  • a newly developed method for combining laminar and turbulent flame speed models to better predict combustion of pure hydrogen and hydrogen/natural gas mixtures.
