Inspiration for girls and women in science: Dr Nicole Wermuth gives some insight into her research career in the large engine sector

Inspiration for girls and women in science: Dr Nicole Wermuth gives some insight into her research career in the large engine sector

On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February 2024, we would like to encourage girls and women to follow their own path and at the same time draw their attention to the excellent prospects in research in technology and especially in the large engine sector.
A lot of research potential is still being lost worldwide because too few highly qualified and well-trained women are working in research. According to current UNESCO statistics, the global proportion of women in research and development is below 30 per cent, and in mechanical engineering it is only in a single digit range. One of the few female researchers to have made a career in this field is Dr Nicole Wermuth. The postgraduate mechanical engineer is a role model for young female researchers. She has been head of the COMBUSTION & FUELS research area at the COMET Research Centre LEC in Graz for several years and is about to take the next big step in her career. We asked her why she studied mechanical engineering and about her advice for young women who are interested in going into research.

The interview is currently only available in German at: https://www.lec.at/news-entries/inspiration-fuer-maedchen-und-frauen-in-der-forschung-dr-nicole-wermuth-im-interview-ueber-ihre-forschungskarriere-im-grossmotorenbereich/
