Recap SMTP25: Symposium on Sustainable Mobility, Transport and Power Generation

Recap SMTP25: Symposium on Sustainable Mobility, Transport and Power Generation

The SMTP conference “Sustainable Mobility, Transport and Power Generation” took place from 4–5 September 2025 at the Graz Congress. To mark its 20th anniversary, around 220 participants from more than 15 countries gathered to discuss current trends and innovations in the field of sustainable propulsion systems.

The main focus was on environmental compatibility, CO₂ reduction, and low-emission propulsion concepts. In 38 technical presentations, current developments for passenger and goods transport as well as for energy generation were showcased. A dedicated focus was placed on large engine systems.

The focus in the large engines section was primarily on technological solutions for achieving climate neutrality in energy and transport. The section addressed the latest developments in renewable fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen, innovative combustion systems, and advanced concepts for energy conversion and grid integration. These contributions were complemented by research findings on exhaust gas aftertreatment, material compatibility, and intelligent methods for system optimization.

During numerous expert presentations, international specialists presented concrete solution approaches and initial demonstrations showing how sustainable mobility, transport, and energy supply can interconnect. This program focus provided valuable impulses for the continued transformation of technologically demanding applications towards a climate-neutral future.

The conference underscored its long tradition since 1987 as a central platform for exchange between science and industry. For Prof. Helmut Eichlseder and Prof. Andreas Wimmer, it was a special anniversary before handing over the organization to their successors.

We look forward to seeing you again at the next conference. SAVE THE DATE: SMTP27, 16–17 September 2027 at the Graz Congress.
